50th Birthday Bass Cake April 29, 2010

This cake was for a 50th birthday and was designed to look like a fish mounted on their wall.  It was a small white chocolate w/raspberry filling sheet cake that fed approx 20 people.  It was iced with white chocolate butter cream and then I made a fondant silver name plate to personalize it.  The bass was hand sculpted from fondant and then hand painted with food coloring to resemble the real thing.  It was a lot of fun to make and turned out better then I had anticipated:)

    I so love this. I would love to make one like this and put a diploma in its mouth for my son’s h.s. graduation. I’ve never used fondant, or even tasted it, before.

      If you have never used fondant this might be difficult. But if you want to give it a try then you can buy Wilton boxed fondant at any craft store and then just cut and mold the fondant to the shape you want and also cut some peices off to make the fins with. Once you have got the fish all molded and the fins shaped, paint on the colors and details with watered down food coloring. Then place it on your cake and attach the fins. I wish you luck and let me know how it all works out!
